Gerdo van Grootheest

Gerdo van Grootheest (Ede, 1978) is Chairman of the Royal Association Stadswerk, the Netherlands. He studied International Business at the University of Maastricht and Economics at Charles University in Prague. He worked at the research agency Etil and as economic policy officer at the municipality of Heerlen. After being a member of the Maastricht City Council for GroenLinks for several years, he was appointed alderman of Maastricht in 2010. Van Grootheest was committed to a greener and more sustainable city of Maastricht and was for many years the driving force behind area developments such as Belvédère, Sphinxkwartier, the Groene Loper and Tapijnkazerne. In 2017, Van Grootheest was appointed mayor of Culemborg. In 2023, he began his second term as mayor of this city, where the ecological Lanxmeer district is internationally renowned.
