Gerdo Van Grootheest

Gerdo van Grootheest (Ede, 1978) is chairman of Royal Association Stadswerk, the Netherlands. He studied international business studies at Maastricht University and economics at Charles University in Prague. He worked at research agency Etil and as an economics policy officer at the municipality of Heerlen. After being a member of the Maastricht city council on behalf of GroenLinks for several years, he was appointed alderman in Maastricht in 2010. Van Grootheest was committed to a greener and more sustainable city of Maastricht and was for many years the driving force behind area developments such as Belvédère, Sphinxkwartier, the Groene Loper and Tapijnkazerne. In 2017, Van Grootheest was appointed mayor of Culemborg. In 2023, he started his second term as mayor in that city where the ecological Lanxmeer district enjoys international fame.
