Lieke Willems
Trained as an architect, Lieke Willems has always been interested in combining use and experience within a design. How are we affected by our environment and how can a space contribute to our mental and physical well-being? After being introduced to biophilic design and the benefits of nature on people’s wellbeing 10 years ago, she began to look more closely at the benefits of greenery. Not just for us humans, but also for tackling climate change and promoting biodiversity. As a public space consultant at PLANTERRA, she mainly works on projects that look at how we can create more nature-inclusive built environments. By writing ambitious green management and policy plans, by developing new ways to stimulate more biodiverse green within the city limits through public space management and participatory processes for citizens’ initiatives. She is always looking for connections on different levels. Between people, between disciplines, between green and other functions within the area. The toolbox and working method for the greening of Dordrecht is a good example of this.
